FMG Stadium Waikato, the home of The Chiefs, is the spiritual home of rugby in Hamilton. Completed in 2002, FMG Stadium Waikato continues to build on the proud history of the grounds it stands on. First opened in 1925 it has hosted the international teams such as the English, the South African Springboks, the All Blacks, and the Wallabies amongst others. The stadium is often regarded as one of the best pure rectangular stadia for football-based sporting codes in New Zealand. It is the home field of the Waikato ITM Cup team and the Chiefs team in the Super Rugby competition. It has also been the home ground for Waikato FC in New Zealand Football Championship (NZFC) and has been used for FIFA age-group World Cups. It has infrequently hosted matches for the New Zealand Warriors rugby league team in the National Rugby League (NRL) competition.
